I grew up in Washington, D.C., and most of my life has happened within a few miles of it, with one long detour through Quantico and Helmand Province.

The Marine Corps taught me how to lead people who had every right to be tired, scared, or skeptical, and how much a small daily ritual can hold a group together. For my platoon that ritual was coffee. When I came home, I wanted to build something around it, and Compass Coffee became a D.C. institution: a roastery, cafés across the region, and a team of hundreds.

Running cafés also showed me how badly hourly teams are served by their software. Scheduling, time clocks, tips, and payroll were held together with spreadsheets and goodwill. Kronto is my answer to that, built with operators and for them.
