Backing what America eats next
Compass Coffee got its start in Union Kitchen's accelerator in 2014, and I have never forgotten how much a first shelf placement, a loading dock, and a few people who had done it before mattered to a company with one product and no revenue.
Today I work with early-stage food and beverage founders through First Run CPG and Union Kitchen in Washington, D.C. First Run invests from the first batch through national scale, with an accelerator, an angel network, and a fund. Union Kitchen is the 30,000-square-foot shared kitchen where many of those brands are made.
I look for operators who understand their unit economics and their customers at the same time, and I try to be the kind of investor I wanted when I was the one roasting in the back of the café.
